A Regenerative Journey

Storey's in the Dirt Farm - Heritage Tomato Harvest

The Story

I'm a farmer, writer, and researcher who believes the land has stories to tell, if we're willing to listen. My farm is both a working landscape and a living laboratory, where I test regenerative methods, natural inputs, and old-world wisdom with modern science in mind. Every seed, every season, every setback, it's all part of the storey.

To be honest it was an accident. I started off with the plans to have a market garden. Much like I had in the past. When I moved to TN I found the soil and environment far more challenging than any garden I had raised anywhere in the country. I've had gardens in 13 states. My kids were in high school and I wanted something that would keep me busy and help me deal with the empty nest, I expected to have soon enough.

Due to the complexity of raising food in brittle soil, on land that had been abused by horses and poor care, I started to deep dive into actually understanding soil and plants. So much so that I have started writing a book on what I learned of conventional, sustainable, and eventually Regenerative Agriculture.

There was an underlying theme in everything I study, every practitioner I learned from and my own experience. Everything is connected. Every animal, plant, microbiology is on the farm to contribute to the whole. These truths guide my decisions on the farm.

Long, long story short, without knowing where products come from, how they are processed or procured, I found it safer to make everything myself. Much like I do in the kitchen, most everything from scratch, Natural Farming, fit my habits, understanding, lifestyle and preferences.

I love to learn and share, so that's what I am doing.

Our Mission

To help farmers and homesteaders find their path to happy families, healthy soils, safe communities, and build strong resilient food systems for future generations.

Our Vision

Building a working landscape that tells storeys through every season.

What We Do

Regenerative Livestock Management

We raise heritage breed KuneKune pigs, chickens, ducks, and geese using rotational grazing and natural farming principles.

Korean Natural Farming

We create and use KNF inputs like Indigenous Microorganisms (IMO), Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB), and fermented plant juices to build soil health.

Practical Homesteading

From soil to kitchen, we make everything ourselves. Natural farming fits our habits, understanding, lifestyle and preferences—most everything from scratch.

Education & Training

Through the blog, books, and ongoing research, we share practical knowledge grounded in real-life farm experience.

Teri Storey

Meet Teri Storey

I'm a farmer, writer, and researcher who believes the land has stories to tell. As a former newspaper writer (Morning News, Blackfoot, ID, 2018), I bring a journalistic eye to documenting farm life, testing methods, and sharing what works (and what doesn't). I've been writing, blogging, and dabbling in podcasting since 2019.

Between feeding chickens, ducks, geese and pigs, brewing KNF inputs, writing books, and watching the seasons roll, I'm always working on something. This isn't about chasing trends. It's about learning and growing with the land. And if that resonates with you, you're in the right place.

About The Website

The Storey's in the Dirt is a website, blog, and ongoing body of work grounded in real-life farm experience. The site is under construction (because so is the farm and the future I'm building).

You'll find my old newspaper articles from the Morning News, current farm observations, a reading list of books I recommend, and a growing collection of recipe cards for both farm inputs and family meals. I'm adding to the site as time allows, and if that resonates with you, you're in the right place.

Core Values of Storey's in the Dirt

Stewardship of Land and Life

We believe farming is more than growing food — it's building a relationship with the land. Every plant, animal, and microbe has a role in the cycle of renewal. We listen, observe, and work with nature's rhythm to restore balance and abundance.

Knowledge as a Living System

Knowledge is meant to grow, not be guarded. Through shared research, open data, and community collaboration, we make learning accessible to farmers, educators, and citizen scientists alike. Truth is our compass, and curiosity is our engine.

Decentralization and Local Empowerment

We stand for local strength. From soil to software, we design systems that put control back in the hands of individuals and communities. Our work supports self-reliance, fair trade, and community wealth that stays rooted where it's grown.

Integrity and Authenticity

We tell honest stories and do honest work. In an age of noise and manipulation, we hold fast to transparency, accountability, and courage — because truth builds trust, and trust builds community.

Integration of Science, Story, and Spirit

We bridge the worlds of data and dirt. Our work honors both empirical science and the wisdom that comes from observation, experience, and story. We believe understanding nature is as much a spiritual practice as it is a scientific one.

Regeneration and Legacy

Our goal is simple: leave every system stronger than we found it — soil, society, and self. We invest in education, open-source tools, and regenerative practices that build capacity for generations to come.
